The Feodorovsky settlement, conceived as a school / hospital / garrison complex attached to his family home by Nicholas II of Russia (he didn't like living in the Winter Palace) as it is on a grey day in 2014

Alexandra and some of her daughters worked in the hospital during World War I

The family was incarcerated here before being moved to Ekaterinburg and massacred

The trees, elms, are protected - they were planted by Nicholas
