Kronstadt, an island which was fortified in the past to protect St Petersburg from potential attack from Sweden, is now reached by beautiful roads built on dams which link it to the mainland in two directions

There are barriers which can be operated to protect the city from floods

The Church was built by sailors and commemorated naval engagements with plaques which list the event and detail the numbre of men and officers killed
